Dinner at Jabber's house
Tonight Jon's friend and co-worker Jabber invited our family over for dinner.
It was a very cool experience. Jabber is Saudi and in the Saudi culture men and women are very much segregated outside of a family setting. So Jon, and the boys went with Jabber and his older sons to the men's sitting area of his house and had dinner.
Jabber's wife and I went to a different part of the house where the women get together and mingle. We had dinner there with the children. Dinner was delicious. I love middle easter food.
Jabber's wife was very sweet but did not speak much english and I only know a few arabic words or phrases but not enough to carry out a long conversation. Luckily they had invited a cousin who spoke some english who could translate for us.
We had a wonderful evening and feel truly grateful for Jabber and his family to share their culture with us.

snorkeling trip with troop 221
Jon took his troop snorkeling to Jennah island, half way between the Arabian gulf and Iran. It was about at 45 minute boat ride out from Jubail's corniche. They had to stop by KSA national guard officials and show their passports upon exit and reentry. They saw many tropical fish including the arabian angel fish which is unique this body of water. The scouts also lounged around on a big lounger and played games. The boys really enjoyed it. The boys were able to earn the BSA snorkel award.
